What is Ear Wax?

Ear wax has many useful properties and is the bodies way of cleansing and protecting the ears against infections and foreign bodies.  However, issues arise when ear wax does not naturally migrate out of the ear canal leading to blocked ears, discomfort, hearing loss and even tinnitus.  Using cotton buds or hearing aids can further add to these problems.  The Yorkshire Hearing Clinic offers same-day microsuction ear wax removal in Harrogate and the surrounding areas.  We offer a choice of a clinic visit or an appointment in the comfort of your own home.   

Why Microsuction?

Microsuction is regarded throughout the hearing profession as the safest and cleanest method of ear wax removal.  We use a fine, single-use probe to gently relieve the ear of blocked wax via suction.  This method of ear wax removal better protects the delicate structures of the ear by offering significantly less risk of damage to the ear drum.  Ear cleaning via microsuction is deemed much safer when compared to irrigation or syringing, which use liquids introduced into the ear canal under pressure to clear wax.

What happens during the appointment?

We take a full case history and thoroughly examine both ear canals to ensure it is safe to proceed.  We explain our findings and most of our patients choose to see live images inside their ear canals using our Video Otoscope.  Any ear wax identified is then safely and painlessly removed utilising our best-in-class microsuction equipment, all whilst directly viewed by Mr Armitage using convergent microscope technology.  After the procedure, your overall aural health will be discussed, we offer the choice to see more live images of your ears and offer advice on how to manage wax in the future.  Mr Armitage will be happy to answer any questions or concerns you may have about ear wax, your ears or your hearing.
